Because Everyone Needs a Cracker Now & Then...

Sunflower Sesame Crackers with Shrimp Paté

from Mark’s Daily Apple

Sunflower Sesame Crackers and Prawn Pate

In last week’s exploration of Primal Snacks we delved into the world of non-potato chips. This week, it seemed fitting to explore non-cracker crackers. Although saying these Sunflower Sesame Crackers submitted by Girl Gone Primal (from Girl Gone Primal) aren’t real crackers just because they aren’t made from flour doesn’t really seem right. They look like crackers. They taste like crackers. Most importantly, they withstood the ultimate cracker test: dip-ability. You can dip Sunflower Sesame Crackers into any number of Primal dips and they won’t shatter into a pile of crumbs. Continue reading Because Everyone Needs a Cracker Now & Then…

An Interesting Article on the Basics of the Paleo Diet

INTRODUCTION TO THE BASICS OF THE PALEO DIET
by Dr. Ben Balzer, family physician

There are races of people who are all slim, who are stronger and faster than us. They all have straight teeth and perfect eyesight. Arthritis, diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, stroke, depression, schizophrenia and cancer are absolute rarities for them. These people are the last 84 tribes of hunter-gatherers in the world. They share a secret that is over 2 million years old. Their secret is their diet- a diet that has changed little from that of the first humans 2 million years ago, and their predecessors up to 7 million years ago. Theirs is the diet that man evolved on, the diet that is coded for in our genes. It has some major differences to the diet of “civilization”. You are in for a few big surprises. PALEO MEATLOAF

Ah, The Ultimate Comfort Food…

Paleo Meatloaf

Meatloaf is very forgiving, you can add or subtract your favorite ingredients until you find your perfect combination. I left out the “tomato paste” element- & didn’t miss it, but many people swear by it. It’s up to you… Continue reading Paleo Meatloaf

Are you getting enough fiber?

from paleoblocks:

The average American person gets 15 grams of fiber per day, whereas the recommended level is about 25 to 35 grams per day.
Over and over when I explain the Paleo Diet to people, they ask, “But don’t you need to eat whole grains for the fiber?” What these people aren’t aware of is that grains have nowhere near the fiber that fruits and vegetables have.

Below lists the average total fiber content in a 1,000 calorie serving of several foods:
Refined cereals – 6 grams
Whole grain cereals – 24 grams
Fruits – 41 grams
Nonstarchy vegetables – 185 grams

As you can see, fruits and especially vegetables pack a serious punch (of fiber that is)! And we all know how important fiber is for our digestion. It also has positive effects on blood chemistry and can help prevent varicose veins, hemorrhoids, hiatal hernia, and illnesses associated with the gastrointestinal tract.
